Employee absences costly for employers
Disability absence costs due to injury or illness could cost companies with 1,000 workers more than $3 million a year, according to a survey by Hewitt Associates.
Its Disability Absence Index Survey 2007 finds that organizations don’t have data regarding duration, frequency or cause of disability absence readily available.
Or where data is available from third parties, firms might not be accessing it, collecting it, and/or analyzing it to develop strategic plans to address disability absence.
Without that data, it can be hard for human resources to make the business case for disability management or wellness programs.
Where disability management or wellness initiatives have been implemented, they are not being used to their full potential.
Fifty-seven Canadian companies, representing 286,467 employees took part in the survey.
